An ironworks becomes a holiday retreat
The Hammergutshof Neidberg is one of the oldest documented ironworks in the Pirna area: first mentioned in records in 1470, it shaped the Bielatal valley for five centuries as an iron hammer mill, grain mill and sawmill. Acquired by the current owners in 2016 and restored in keeping with its heritage in 2017/2018 – supported by the Rural Development Programme of the Free State of Saxony – the historic house and barn building has come back to life as a charming holiday retreat.
The estate lies right beside the forest and directly on the Biela – the little river that drew “Switzerland travellers” 200 years ago with its waterfalls and rock grottoes. From the terrace you can hear the water babbling; a few steps further the forest begins, with its trails leading to the striking rock towers of Saxon Switzerland.
